An LED strip light is a flexible lighting product made up of multiple LED emitters mounted onto a slim circuit board. Most LED strips run on low-voltage DC power, making them both energy-efficient and practical for many indoor and outdoor lighting applications. 

LED strip lights are commonly available in: 

• Fixed colours (such as warm white or cool white) 
• Variable colour options (such as RGB or colour-changing models) 
• Adjustable brightness levels (depending on the driver/controller used) 

Most LED strips come in a reel (often around 5 metres long) and can be cut down to size at marked cut points. Many also include an adhesive backing for easy mounting.

There are two main ways to mount LED strip lights, depending on the finish you want and the surface you’re installing onto: 

1) Adhesive backing (quick install method)
Most LED strips include a self-adhesive backing. This allows you to peel and stick the strip directly onto the surface. This is ideal for quick installs, especially under cabinets or inside shelving. 

2) Using mounts or profiles (best long-term method)
For a cleaner finish and added protection, LED strips can be installed into mounts (such as aluminium channels/profiles). This method offers several advantages: 

• protects the strip from dust and damage 
• diffuses brightness for a softer, more even glow 
• improves the overall look (more “built-in” and professional) 
• makes the strip easier to reposition or maintain 

The difference is simple: 

• LED Strips = just the flexible LED strip itself 
• Strip Light Kits = LED strip + driver + accessories (ready-to-install package) 

If you already have a compatible driver or controller, buying LED strips on their own can be a more flexible and cost-effective option.
