What is an LED driver?

An LED driver converts mains electricity into a stable low-voltage DC power required by compatible lighting products. A driver is needed whenever a product requires an external DC power supply; usually location in areas with full weather exposure.

Common low-voltage products include spike lights, bollards, LED strip lighting and low-voltage wall lights. Always check the individual product specifications, as not every product within these categories requires an external driver.

The driver’s output voltage must match the product’s required voltage (eg. 12V DC), and its wattage must be sufficient for the total connected load. The calculator below recommends a suitable 12V or 24V driver and includes the required safety margin.

Find the Right LED Driver

Choose the product type and required voltage, then enter the installation details. We’ll recommend a suitable driver with the required safety margin.

Calculator type

Required voltage

Check the product specifications for its required voltage. The driver voltage must match the product. This calculator is only suitable for products marked 12V DC or 24V DC.

Wattage per fitting (W)

Quantity

All fittings connected to one driver must have the same voltage input. For fittings with different wattages, add their individual wattages together and contact us if you need help confirming the correct driver.
