Yes — inground lights are designed for outdoor installation, but the IP rating matters depending on exposure. 

• IP65 = protected against dust and water jets (good for general outdoor use) 
• IP67 = protected against temporary water immersion (better for heavy rain / splash zones) 
• IP68 = suitable for continuous submersion (best for water feature applications) 

The IK rating measures impact resistance (how well the fitting handles force/pressure).
This is especially important for: 

• driveways 
• walkways 
• areas where people may step over the fitting 

A common high-performance option is IK10, which is ideal for high-traffic areas. 

Some inground lights are rated for drive-over use, but not all. 

Before choosing driveway-safe inground lights, check for: 

• load rating (kg) 
• IK rating (ideally IK10) 
• material (316 stainless steel recommended in exposed environments) 

Most modern inground lights use LED technology, so they generate far less heat than older halogen fittings.
However, they still require: 

• correct installation clearance 
• proper ventilation/drainage 
• correct driver/transformer setup (if low voltage) 

Colour temperature changes the overall outdoor look: 

• Warm White (2700K–3000K): cosy, premium look, best for entertaining zones 
• Neutral White (3500K–4500K): clean and modern, best for walls + gardens 
• Daylight (5000K–6500K): crisp visibility, best for driveways and security-focused areas 

Yes — drainage is one of the most important installation factors. 

To prevent pooling water and reduce moisture stress, inground lights should ideally be installed with: 

• gravel base / drainage layer 
• correct cable entry sealing 
• appropriate outdoor-rated junction protection 

Both are used for landscape lighting, but they serve different purposes: 

• Inground lights: flush, sleek, modern, ideal for paths/driveways/walls 
• Spike lights: adjustable, easier to reposition, perfect for trees and garden beds 

Yes — inground lights are a popular choice for modern pathway lighting, but spacing matters. 

For best results: 

• aim for pools of light, not runway lighting 
• avoid glare by choosing diffused beam angles 
• stagger placement for balance
