What are the types of Bathroom Lighting, Heating and Accessories?
Bathroom 3-in-1 Heaters
Our 3-in-1 bathroom heaters are invaluable for enhancing the functionality of your bathroom lighting, while also providing much-needed heat and ventilation. These versatile fixtures can be controlled independently or in combination, depending on your needs. Whether you need bright lighting for applying makeup, warmth for those chilly winter mornings, or ventilation to keep your bathroom fresh and free from moisture, a 3-in-1 bathroom heater is an excellent choice.
Bathroom 4-in-1 Heaters
You might be familiar with 2-in-1 and 3-in-1 bathroom lighting options, but you're probably curious about what a 4-in-1 entails. In a 2-in-1 setup, you have a combined bathroom exhaust fan and light in a single fixture. A 3-in-1 arrangement includes the exhaust fan, light, and heating capabilities all in one fitting.
Now, the 4-in-1 takes things further by introducing an additional feature: the fan can work independently to provide a cooling breeze during hotter months. This is ideal if your bathroom gets stuffy in summer. You still get the exhaust + light, but the light is upgraded to an LED panel, meaning brighter and more evenly distributed lighting than a single downlight.
Bathroom Wall Lights
Bathroom wall lights are commonly used for task lighting, with the best setup being one on each side of the vanity mirror. This helps reduce shadows and improves visibility for makeup, shaving, skincare and grooming.
Important: choose IP44-rated wall lights if they are located within 600mm of a shower recess or vanity basin.
Bathroom Heat Lamp
A bathroom heat lamp is a useful addition, especially during cold winter days when you need quick warmth after a shower.
Heat lamps can be:
- a standalone heat lamp fitting
- part of a 3-in-1 bathroom heater
Bathroom Exhaust Fan
Extracting unwanted moisture is essential to prevent mould and mildew. A bathroom exhaust fan removes humidity and odours and helps keep the bathroom fresh.
It’s important to choose an exhaust fan with the right capacity for your bathroom size and airflow needs.
Vanity and Mirror Lights
Vanity and mirror lighting is essential for a well-lit, practical bathroom. These fittings can be installed above or beside the mirror and help eliminate unwanted shadows.
Key tip: avoid lighting from only one side, as this creates uneven face lighting. For best results, install lights on both sides of the mirror or use a balanced multi-light vanity fitting.
Exhaust Fans (Fan only)
If you already have bathroom lighting sorted and simply need moisture extraction, an exhaust fan without a light is a great option.
Sizing tip: manufacturers generally advise bathrooms with showers require a fan capable of 15–20 air changes per hour (based on bathroom volume). This reduces moisture build-up and mould risk.
Heated Towel Rail
A heated towel rail keeps towels dry, fluffy and fresh—especially in winter.
You can choose between:
- Electric towel rails (easy install, independent)
- Hydronic towel rails (efficient, uses hot water heating system)
Bathroom Downlights
Bathroom downlights are ideal for lighting shower, tub and vanity areas—especially in compact bathrooms where wall lights or pendants don’t suit.
Ensure the correct IP rating so the downlights can safely be installed in wet bathroom zones.
Adding a dimmer creates flexibility: bright for cleaning and grooming, softer lighting for evening wind-down.
What does "Bathroom Zone" refer to?
What does "Bathroom Zone" refer to?
Bathrooms are divided into safety zones due to the risks of water and electricity being close together. Each zone has rules for what electrical products can be installed there. Understanding IP ratings is essential when choosing bathroom lighting.
Zone 0
Inside the bath or shower. Lights must be low voltage (max 12V) and fully waterproof for full immersion.
Recommended: IP67 or higher.
Zone 1
Directly above the shower/bath. Minimum requirement is often noted as IP45, but the recommended safe choice is IP65.
Zone 2
Zone 2 includes the space around the bath, shower and vanity basin:
- 600mm radius beyond Zone 1 (bath/shower)
- Vanity basin: 150mm outside boundaries + 400mm above
Required: IP44 fittings when inside Zone 2.
Which is more suitable for Bathroom Lighting: Bright or Warm?
Which is more suitable for Bathroom Lighting: Bright or Warm?
Warm white is great for cozy living spaces, but bathrooms benefit most from lighting that enhances cleanliness and visibility.
For bathrooms, cool white to daylight LED lighting is commonly preferred because it feels brighter, fresher, and cleaner.
