For most bathroom ceilings, it’s best to choose downlights with an IP44 rating or higher, such as IP54 or IP65, as long as the ceiling location is not within electrical zones 0–2. 

If you’re installing downlights directly above a bath or shower, it’s strongly recommended to use IP65 downlights for higher water protection. 

The best colour temperature depends on the mood and the purpose of the lighting: 

• Warm White (2700K–3000K)
Creates a cosy, relaxing atmosphere—ideal near baths and vanity areas where you want a softer feel. 
• Cool White (4000K–5000K)
Produces a clean, bright light that’s perfect for task areas like mirrors and showers where visibility matters most. 

For the best lighting result, aim for a combination of task lighting and general lighting: 

• Above the vanity / mirror
Helps with grooming tasks like shaving, makeup, and skincare. 
• Over the shower or bathtub area
Ensures safe visibility—just make sure you use the correct IP-rated bathroom downlights. 
• Evenly spaced across the ceiling
Creates balanced ambient lighting and avoids dark corners.
