DescriptionDepending on the height of your ceiling, you may need to purchase a longer downrod to bring your ceiling fan closer to the floor and improve performance. What is the purpose of an extension rod? An extension rod will be necessary if your ceiling height is greater than 2.7 metres. In such cases, adding an extension rod to bring the ceiling fan lower will dramatically improve the ceiling fan's airflow effectiveness. Ceiling fans can lose up to 30% airflow effectiveness if they are installed on high ceilings without using an extension rod. Recommended installation height All ceiling fans should be installed so that the bottom of the blades are at least 2.1m from the floor, and at least 300mm from the ceiling to maximise airflow. General recommendations Australian Safety Standards require your ceiling fans blades to be at least 2.1m (210 cm) from the floor. Increasing the amount of space above your ceiling fan will generally result in better performance (airflow). The ideal distance from the floor to the blades of your ceiling fan is between 210 cm and 270 cm for optimal performance.
Your ceiling fan includes a downrod which is suitable for most standard ceiling heights in Australia. For low ceilings (2.4m) refer to your ceiling fans data sheet and confirm that the height from ceiling to the bottom of the fan blades will not cause your fan to go under the 2.1m minimum height.
We recommend adding a 90 cm downrod to your ceiling fan. Depending on your ceiling height, you likely wonâ„¢t need the full 90 cm downrod length. Your installing electrician can cut the downrod as required. As a guideline, we recommend trying to position the fan between 240 cm and 270 cm from the floor.
