Light Globes

Light globes, also known as light bulbs, are the replaceable sources of illumination used in fittings like lamps, ceiling lights, wall lights, pendants, and downlights. Today’s globes come in a variety of base types, shapes, brightness levels (lumens), and colour temperatures, making it easy to find the perfect option for any room or purpose.

Carbon Filament Globes (Edison Bulbs):

LED Globes:

Rangehood Globes:

These bulbs are specially made for rangehoods, built to withstand high temperatures, heat, and grease. They provide reliable illumination for kitchens while enduring demanding cooking conditions.

Smart Light Bulbs:

Smart bulbs connect wirelessly via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or Zigbee, allowing control through smartphones, tablets, or voice assistants like Alexa and Google Assistant. B15 (Small Bayonet Cap – SBC):

Small bayonet cap globes with a push-and-twist installation. Smaller than the standard B22.

B22 (Bayonet Cap – BC):

Classic bayonet base with 22mm cap and two side pins for secure fitting. Widely used in household lighting.

E14 (Small Edison Screw – SES):

Threaded screw base bulbs that easily fit into fixtures. Popular and widely used across Australia.

E27 (Edison Screw – ES):

Larger 27mm screw base, standard for mains voltage fittings in homes and commercial spaces.

GU10:

Spotlight bulbs with two short square pins spaced 10mm apart. Common in downlights and directional lighting.

MR16 (GU5.3):

Low-voltage spotlight bulbs with two thin pins spaced 5.3mm apart. Often used in kitchens, hallways, and display lighting.

R7S:

Linear bulbs with ceramic ends, used in halogen or LED retrofit lamps.

G4:

Low-voltage bi-pin bulbs with a 4mm pin spacing. Ideal for compact spaces.

G9:

Glass-type bulbs with two looped pins spaced 9mm apart. Popular for decorative and under-cabinet lighting.

The most popular types of globes include: 

• LED globes (most energy efficient + longest lifespan) 
• Decorative filament globes (warm vintage look) 
• Smart globes (app / voice controlled) 
• Fluorescent / CFL globes (less common today) 
• Heat lamps (bathroom warmth + light) 
• Specialty globes (rangehoods, ovens, appliances, etc.) 

The best way is to check: 

• Base type (E27, B22, GU10, MR16, etc.) 
• Voltage (240V or 12V low voltage) 
• Brightness (lumens) 
• Colour temperature (warm/cool/daylight) 
• Dimmable or non-dimmable 
• Shape + size (especially for decorative fittings) 

Lumens = brightness output Watts = energy usage 

LED globes use fewer watts to produce the same brightness, so always compare globes by lumens, not watts. 

Colour temperature is measured in Kelvin (K): 

• Warm White (2000K–3000K): cozy & relaxing (bedrooms, living rooms, lamps) 
• Cool White (4000K): neutral & practical (kitchens, garages, study) 
• Daylight (5000K–6500K): crisp & bright (bathrooms, task areas) 

Not always. 

Dimmable globes work on dimmable circuits.

Non-dimmable globes should not be used on dimmers.

Always check the globe packaging/product listing for “dimmable”. 

Most good-quality LED globes last around 15,000 to 50,000 hours, depending on the brand and usage. This can mean years of normal household use before needing replacement.

Flickering is usually caused by: 

• incompatible dimmer switch 
• poor-quality globe driver 
• loose wiring or connection 
• old transformers (for MR16/12V setups)

LED globes are the most energy-efficient option. They use far less electricity than halogen or incandescent globes and generate less heat.
