A downlight dimmer is a device that lets you control the brightness of yourLED downlights. By adjusting the power going to the lights, a dimmer allows you to increase or decrease light output—so you can create different moods, improve comfort, and fine-tune lighting fordifferent timesof day.

No — not all downlights can be used with dimmers. 

To dim your lighting safely and properly, you must use: 

• Dimmable downlights, and 
• a compatible dimmer designed for that lighting type (especially for LED) 

Using non-dimmable downlights on a dimmer may cause: 

• flickering or uneven brightness 
• poor long-term performance 
• overheating 
• potential safety and fire risks 

For the best result, always confirm the downlight is labelled “dimmable” and match it with the correct dimmer type. 

Using a dimmer offers several benefits: 

1. Better control & atmosphere
Adjust lighting levels to suit the space—bright for tasks, softer for relaxing or entertaining. 

2. Energy savings
Lowering brightness reduces power consumption, which can help reduce running costs over time. 

3. Longer globe lifespan
Dimming reduces the load on bulbs and can help them last longer (note: halogen globes still have a shorter lifespan overall compared to LED).
