FAQ

TYPES OF BATHROOM LIGHTING, HEATING AND ACCESSORIES

Bathroom 3-in-1 Heaters

Our 3-in-1 bathroom heaters are invaluable for enhancing the functionality of your bathroom lighting, while also providing much-needed heat and ventilation. These versatile fixtures can be controlled independently or in combination, depending on your needs. Whether you need bright lighting for applying makeup, warmth for those chilly winter mornings, or ventilation to keep your bathroom fresh and free from moisture, a 3-in-1 bathroom heater is an excellent choice.

Bathroom 4-in-1 Heaters

You might be familiar with 2-in-1 and 3-in-1 bathroom lighting options, but you're probably curious about what a 4in1 entails. In a 2in1 setup, you have a combined bathroom exhaust fan and light in a single fixture. A 3in1 arrangement includes the exhaust fan, light, and heating capabilities all in one fitting. Now, the 4in1 has taken things further by introducing an exciting new feature. The fan in the 4in1 can work independently, providing a cooling breeze during the hotter months. So, if your bathroom tends to get uncomfortably warm and stuffy in the summer, this cooling fan will help improve the situation. Additionally, you still have the exhaust and light components, but the light has been upgraded to an LED panel. This means it offers greater brightness compared to a single downlight and ensures better illumination throughout your bathroom.

Bathroom Wall Lights

Proper lighting plays a crucial role in creating a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere in a bathroom. It can significantly impact the overall comfort and experience. When selecting wall lights specifically designed for bathrooms, it is important to consider an IP44 rating if the lights will be located within 600mm of a shower recess or vanity basin. This rating ensures that the lights are suitable for areas where they may come into contact with moisture. Bathroom wall lights are commonly used for task lighting, with an ideal placement being one on each side of the vanity mirror. This setup is particularly beneficial for activities like applying makeup, shaving, or simply brushing teeth, providing adequate illumination for these tasks.

Bathroom Heat Lamp

A bathroom heat lamp is a useful addition to your bathroom, especially during cold winter days when you need to warm up after taking a shower. There are a variety of heat lamp options available, including brands such as Brilliant Lighting, CLA Lighting, Martec, Mercator, and Ventair. A heat lamp can be a standalone fixture or incorporated into a 3-in-1 bathroom heater for added functionality.

Bathroom Exhaust Fan

Extracting unwanted moisture from your bathroom is crucial to maintaining a healthy and comfortable environment. Excess moisture can lead to mold growth, which can be harmful to your health. A bathroom exhaust fan can help prevent this by effectively removing moisture and odors from your bathroom. It's important to choose an exhaust fan with the appropriate capacity for your bathroom size and ventilation needs.

Proper heating, ventilation, and lighting are all important elements in creating a comfortable and functional bathroom. By incorporating these fixtures into your bathroom design, you can create a space that is both practical and stylish. Whether you're renovating your bathroom or simply looking to upgrade your fixtures, there are many options available to help you create your ideal bathroom environment.

Vanity and Mirror Lights

Whether you're building a new bathroom or renovating an existing one, finding the perfect bathroom vanity and mirror lights is essential for creating a well-lit and functional space. These bathroom lighting fixtures can be installed above or alongside a mirror to provide extra brightness for viewing the face and removing unwanted shadows.

When selecting vanity and mirror lights for your bathroom lighting, it's important to consider the size of your bathroom and the size and style of your vanity and mirror. Small bathrooms with bright vanity and mirror lights can be overwhelming, so it's important to balance the brightness with other bathroom lighting sources in the room. This can be achieved by using dimmer switches or adding additional lighting fixtures, such as wall sconces or recessed lighting.

It's also important to ensure that the bathroom lighting is evenly distributed across the face. Having a vanity mirror light only on one side can create uneven lighting and make it difficult to apply makeup or shave. Consider installing lights on both sides of the mirror or using a single light fixture with multiple bulbs to ensure even bathroom lighting.

Make sure that the vanity and mirror lights you choose are rated for use in damp or wet locations, as bathrooms can be humid environments. Look for fixtures that are specifically designed for use in bathrooms, with moisture-resistant construction and proper ventilation to prevent damage from condensation.

Exhaust Fans

In addition to providing bathroom lighting, exhaust fans are a crucial element in any bathroom. If you already have an existing light source and simply need a product to extract moisture from the air, an exhaust fan without a light is an ideal option.

One important factor to consider when choosing an exhaust fan for your bathroom lighting and ventilation needs is the size of the fan. It needs to be the right fit for the size of your bathroom. Manufacturers generally advise that for a bathroom with a shower, the exhaust fan must have a capacity of fifteen to twenty times the air volume in the room. This ensures that the fan has enough power to effectively remove moisture from the bathroom, preventing issues such as mold, mildew, and structural rot.

When selecting an exhaust fan, look for a model with moisture-resistant construction and a proper ventilation system to ensure efficient and safe operation. You may also want to consider additional features such as noise level, energy efficiency, and ease of installation.

Proper bathroom lighting and ventilation are crucial for creating a comfortable and healthy space in your home. With the right exhaust fan as part of your bathroom lighting plan, you can help prevent moisture buildup and ensure a clean and healthy environment for you and your family.

Heated Towel Rail

Heated towel rails are an excellent addition to any bathroom lighting and can help to keep your towels dry, fluffy, and smelling fresh. They are especially useful during the colder months of the year when towels can take longer to dry. With a heated towel rail installed, you can hang multiple towels at once, allowing for air to circulate and dry them out more quickly.

Not only do heated towel rails provide a practical solution for towel drying, but they can also add a touch of luxury to your bathroom. They come in a range of styles and finishes, from sleek and modern to more traditional designs, and can be matched to your existing bathroom lighting and decor.

When selecting a heated towel rail, there are a few things to consider. Firstly, you will need to choose the right size to suit the number of towels you want to hang. The rail should be able to accommodate all of your towels, while still allowing enough space for air to circulate. Secondly, you will need to decide on the type of heating element you prefer - either electric or hydronic. Electric towel rails are easier to install and can be used independently of your home's heating system, while hydronic towel rails are more energy-efficient and use hot water to heat the rails.

A heated towel rail is an excellent addition to any bathroom lighting and can help to keep your towels dry and smelling fresh, while also adding a touch of luxury to your space.

Bathroom Downlights

Bathroom downlights are a fantastic option for illuminating the shower, tub, and sink areas. They work especially well in bathrooms that have limited space, where wall lights or pendant lights may not be suitable. Ensuring that the bathroom downlights have the right IP rating is crucial, as it allows them to be safely installed in the wettest parts of the bathroom, such as the shower.

These downlights are perfect for task lighting, providing enhanced clarity for activities like applying makeup and shaving. Installing them on a dimmer switch adds an extra level of flexibility, enabling you to adjust the lighting and create the desired ambiance as the purpose of the room changes throughout the day.

Bathroom downlights offer a practical solution for improving illumination in specific areas. By selecting downlights with the appropriate IP rating and utilizing a dimmer switch, you can optimize their functionality and establish a more adaptable lighting environment in your bathroom.

WHAT DOES "BATHROOM ZONE" REFER TO?

We are aware of the potential danger when water and electricity come into close proximity. To ensure safety, bathrooms are divided into zones with specific measurements to protect people from electrical hazards. Each zone has its own set of regulations governing the types of electrical fixtures that can be installed. It is crucial to have a good understanding of the rating system used to classify bathroom lights, specifically the IP (Ingress Protection) rating. Checking the IP rating details is essential to ensure that the chosen bathroom lights are suitable and safe for the specific zone in which they will be installed.

Zone 0: Zone 0 refers to the area inside the bath or shower in a bathroom. In this zone, any lights that are used must have a low voltage, not exceeding 12 volts, and be completely waterproof to withstand full immersion. It is crucial to choose lights specifically designed for showers and follow the installation instructions carefully to ensure proper fitting and minimize the risk of electrical hazards.

Zone 1: In Zone 1 of a bathroom, certain requirements must be met for electrical fittings. A minimum IP45 rating is necessary, indicating a level of protection against water and solids. However, it is widely acknowledged and recommended to use fittings with a higher IP rating of IP65 in this zone. The IP65 rating ensures a greater level of protection against water, making it the preferred choice to ensure safety and suitability for the specific conditions found in Zone 1 of a bathroom.

Zone 2: Zone 2 in a bathroom encompasses specific areas around the bath, shower, and vanity basin. It extends to a 600mm radius beyond Zone 1 of the bath and shower. For the vanity basin, Zone 2 includes a 150mm radius outside its boundaries, as well as a 400mm vertical projection above it.

Within Zone 2, when fittings are located inside this designated area, it is necessary to use fittings that have an IP44 rating. This rating ensures that the fittings meet the required level of protection against water splashes and solid objects. By adhering to the IP44 rating requirement, you ensure that the fittings used within Zone 2 are appropriate and compliant with safety standards.

Outter Zones: The outside zone in a bathroom refers to any area that is not categorized as zones 0, 1, or 2. Unlike the specific IP requirements in those zones, there are no particular IP requirements for the outside zone. However, it is recommended to use a light with a minimum IP rating of IP20 in this zone. This suggestion ensures a basic level of protection against solid objects and suggests a suitable IP rating for lights used in the general areas outside of the defined zones in a bathroom.

WHICH IS MORE SUITABLE FOR BATHROOM LIGHTING: BRIGHT OR WARM?

Warm white lighting is an excellent choice for larger living spaces when you want to create a cozy and inviting ambiance. However, when it comes to bathrooms, where cleanliness is a priority, extensive research suggests that 'cool white' to 'daylight' LED lighting is the preferred option. This type of lighting is known to enhance the perception of cleanliness and create a bright and fresh atmosphere in the bathroom.
